OPERATIONAL
All EAS systems are designed to monitor at least two radio stations (LP1 & LP2) and optionally a 3rd NOAA source for weather alerts. In the alert tone resides an ASFK string which contains the key data for alert, i.e. alert type, duration, FIPS (geographic location code), etc. The Encoder/Decoder then processes the information, puts up the appropriate canned message and passes through the audio supplied by the radio source.
The text message is then displayed via a crawl overlay of the existing programor as a full-page message and the audio played. While the means of accomplishing this depends on whether it is analog, digital or IP, the viewer experiences these alerts in one of these two formats.
